What I thought home was going to feel like
2016
watercolor and acrylic on paper on wood
36" x 25"

I was in a hotel in Tokyo Japan in 2014, a three day stopover on my way to China where I would end up living for 5 years. I began drawing a structure in my sketchbook after looking at the Characters for Shinjuku 新宿区. I wanted to use the structure of the character to create a structure which represented my feelings of moving to another country to call it home, feelings of excitement and apprehension. The end result was a structure which was investigated and evolved through a series of works.
